243 Heroes, 103kg of plastic collected
In the heart of Rau Forest in Moshi, 243 dedicated volunteers came together with a shared purpose: to protect their environment and take action against plastic waste.
Their collective effort resulted in an incredible 103 kilograms of plastic collected — a powerful reminder of what community-driven action can achieve.
The power of community
The clean-up was led by passionate volunteers from Roots & Shoots, whose energy and commitment brought the initiative to life.
Working side by side, students and young people showed that meaningful change does not come from individuals alone, but from communities moving together with a shared vision.
Their dedication turned a single day into a moment of real impact.

From waste to resource
The collected plastic will not go to waste. Instead, it will be carefully sorted and transported to the plastic recycling hub at the JK Nyerere School in Moshi.
There, the materials will be processed and transformed into new, useful products, closing the loop and turning waste into opportunity.
Protecting Rau Forest
Rau Forest is a vital green space in the region, supporting biodiversity and providing an important natural environment for local communities.
By removing plastic waste, the volunteers are not only cleaning the forest, but also helping to preserve it for future generations.

One forest. One mission. A shared impact.
What happened in Rau Forest is a powerful example of how local action can create lasting change.
243 individuals came together as one community and made a difference that reaches far beyond a single day.
Because when people unite around a common mission, even the smallest actions can lead to something much greater.
